Haley and Geoff's Wedding

My brother married his college sweetheart, Haley, on Nov. 6, 2010 at the beautiful Old Glory Ranch in Wimberley. Beautiful is a terrible understatement though. This place was breath-taking. I was overwhelmed with joy for days before and after the ceremony! Instead of staying in hotels in nearby San Marcos, we all stayed in the hills of Wimberley in houses that people rent out to vacationers. Craig, Hollis, and I stayed in a big house for the whole wedding party. My parents stayed in a different house with 3 of my uncles, 1 aunt, and 3 cousins. It was SO much fun! (Yes, there will be pictures soon... I promise!)

TEETH!

Hollis is finally getting his first TWO teeth! The bottom center teeth have officially broken through and are actually visible now (if I can get Hollis to let me pull his bottom lip out of the way long enough to take a peek.)

6 Months! Half a Lap Around the Sun

Hollis is 6 months old! Here are some of his latest experiences:

• Football games! He's been to two varsity and two freshmen games and loved it!


• Laughing! He laughs more and more each week. He really gets going if I make silly faces and noises.


• Runny Nose/Ear Infection (boo)- this just started the day he went in for his 6-month check-up (good timing since we were already at the doctor's office). He's on antibiotics and seems to be doing a little better today.


• More push-ups! He's been doing these more and more the last few weeks. He gets up in a full-body plank position.


• Halloween costume is here! I can't wait to get his picture in it.


• We are working on sitting up- but he doesn't do it on his own for more than a few seconds.


• And most important of all; CRAWLING! That's right! He's beginning to crawl. More of an Army crawl/scoot mixed with some rolling and push-ups. Video will be loaded soon!

5 Months!

On September 14, at 9:20pm, Hollis officially turned 5 months old. He's growing and changing SOOOO much every day! Here are some more things Hollis has been up to lately:

• BIG baby push-ups- his arms are getting very strong!
• Rolls over both shoulders now (was only rolling over the left one for about 3 weeks)
• Rolls, twists, and inches forward to reach toys (or Zeus!)
• Likes to "pet" Zeus
• Still loves to smile at lots of people, especially his family and his babysitter
• Has this funny deep breath/sigh/squeal noise he makes when he is excited
• Tries to press his lips together and exhale making the "raspberry" noise with his mouth
• Still loves vowel sounds, but can make the "ba" and "ma" sounds sometimes, too.
• Puts all of his toys in his mouth
• Loves rice cereal and baby oatmeal
• Holds his own bottle (well, he tries to!)

Love you big guy! You are such an awesome baby!

God's Wonderful Gift

This was just such a sweet moment, I wanted to put it in a blog entry all by itself... I am so blessed to be a mother, and this is one if the infinite reasons why...

Hollis never cried in his crib at bedtime until recently, so I tried something different tonight... I decided to read a longer book to Hollis to help him get to sleep. I usually read Dr. Seuss books, or Llama Llama Red Pajama, or Goodnight Moon, but I’d finish reading them so quickly and he would still be really fussy as I kissed him goodnight. Now I know babies are just fine to cry themselves to sleep, teaches them self-soothing, but I just couldn’t do it tonight… It had been a busy and challenging week with all the changes to his schedule and daily routine. So I grabbed Winnie-the-Pooh and decided to read the entire first chapter. All 21 pages. It was as though the first part of the story was tailor-made just for Hollis. He was pretty calm and sleepy already, but literally as I finished page 21, as I read the last few sentences, he drifted off to asleep. The timing was something straight out of a movie: You hear the mother’s voice in the background with a close-up shot of the baby’s face, and as I read the last words on the page you see his eyes flutter closed. It overwhelmed me with that loving feeling that I think only a mother understands. I can’t describe it, but many of my blog readers know what I am talking about. Some will discover it in the coming years as they become mothers too. The kind of feeling that makes your eyes well up with tears. The kind that makes you smile for no reason. I feel so blessed every single day. I completely understand why people say “Children are a gift from God” because they really are! A gift, that even when they are driving you crazy you can still kiss their little forehead and look into their eyes and say “I love you will all my heart” and mean every word.

So as I close this blog post, I open up the folder of “My Favorite Mommy Moments” in my brain and store this moment away safely. Along with the moment I first saw you, all the times you cuddle on me like a tree frog, and that first smile you ever flashed. Right next to the memories of you doing “Super Baby” with Daddy and snuggling with your grandparents. I sure hope that folder is really big, because there are so many more wonderful things to experience… and I don’t want to forget a single one.
